Proper Pills

I ask that you never give me the proper pills
Because when met by my roaring mind
I leap over the counter in search of little red circles
I do not bother to place them between my lips
I swallow water by the liter
Become the caretaker I never wanted
Screams restricted by broken tongue
Boiling streams of salt run
I worry if you gave me the proper pills
I would feel numb
Finally numb to the pain of searching for lungs
But now numb to the strains of being in love
Perfect teeth fall faint to reality
I worry if you gave me the proper pills
I would smile less
But today I fake happiness with the strangers of these walls
So maybe the proper pills could fix it all
I worry if you gave me the proper pills
There would be nothing left of me
Nothing left to be perceived
But I cannot take the proper pills
Because if I did
You would be left to take them instead

a cacophony of spoons and skillets
create music among bubbly giggles
uncontrollable joy spills from a space where baby teeth used to hold camp
golden circles stacked high on glossy plate
hot scent rises in white streams
monday morning mimics the tv screen
i love you more than the stars
a cacophony of spoons and skillets
play alongside rushed chatter
magnetic collisions
scowls sent to the backs of heads of hair yet to be brushed
unaware of syrup stains leaving sticky stains on pressed white cotton
unlaced shoes make their way from the door to the pavement to the engine roaring red
half eaten platter left to dry
tomorrow will be better, i promise
a cacophony of spoons and skillets
metallic tongue swirling in red
the sweet cold of tile on my cheek
dancing eyes meet crumbs beneath the oven sunbeam breakfasts long gone
how do this go wrong
i replay a cacophony of spoons and skillets in my mind
